The cultural association LIBERT A N G O started its activity in Venice in 1988. Its purpose is the diffusion of Argentine culture and tango as popular artistic expression. With this view in mind, the association organizes approach courses to the dance, stages with internationally renowned masters, shows e conferences.
Since 1988, many guests have joined the association such as: Maria Florencia Taccetti, Rodolfo & Maria Cieri, Catherine Berbessou & Federico Rodriguez Moreno, Ernesto Carmona, Alejandro Aquino, Giselle Anne, Graciela Gonzįlez e Luis Bruni.
In 1996, in collaboration with Avogaria Theatre and master Ernesto Carmona, a danced version of the "Il postino di Neruda" of Antonio Scarmeta was enacted.
In 1997, the danced show "R&G sin tiempo" inspired to Romeo and Juliet of William Shakespeare, created and coreographied by maestro Alejandro Aquino, was performed in the Parco della Bissuola .
In 1995 Alfredo Mujica e Miguel Angel Garcia presented a conference in Venice at Scuola dei Calegheri. The subject discussed by Mujica was "Tango in the works of eight interpreters. Villoldo, Contursi, Arolas, Gardel, De Caro, Discepolo, Pugliese, Piazzolla" while Garcia spoke of "Death and rebirth of Tango in modern Argentina".
In 1996, in collaboration with the Architecture University Institute of Venice, a conference on the subject "The roots of tango in the metropolis area" with Alfredo Mujica and Miguel Angel Garcia as narrators was presented. Between January and March 2000, a series of meetings on Astor Piazzolla's music with maestro Mirko Schipilliti on topics: Argentina in the first half '900, Astor Piazzolla between tradition and innovation; form and contents in Piazzolla's music; interpretative style, strumental and executional aspects of Piazzolla's music.
Meri Lao presented in 1996 her book "T like Tango" published by Melusina at Palestra dell'Avogaria .
Since 1994 Liber t a n g o-Venice has given birth, for the first time in Italy, to a yearly appointment that brings together in a great Galą all national and international tango associations. The gathering usually takes place in a historic Venetian palace between 25th April and 1st May. On the last Galą held April 29, 2000 at Ca' Tron, a palace on the Canal Grande of a particular fascination and beauty, "Liber t a n g o", wanted to give full expression to its nature of cultural association by joining others forms of artistic expressions. Pino Ninfa, national renowned photographer of cultural events and musicals, documented the "Annual Gran Galą" at Ca' Tron with a photo-reportage : a day with "Liber t a n g o".
